The Ponen (Triglidae) are a family of bottom-living sea fish also known as grunts or sea roosters. Unlike most fish, species in this family can produce sound when danger is imminent. The grunting sound is produced by vibrating the swim bladder. This is also the name of the grunt. Typical of the Ponen are the pelvic fins that have been converted into probing organs, with which they can also walk short pieces over the seabed. The dorsal fin is divided. The head shape and the large, wide mouth opening are also striking. The maximum length is 1 meter.
Pony are found in all seas and live mainly on sandy or soft soil, in which they search for food with their pelvic fins. They live to a depth of 300 meters. They feed on fish, lobsters and shellfish.
