The cod (Gadus morhua) is found in the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea.
The cod has a length of up to 150 centimeters, but measures an average of 80 to 90 centimeters. The adult fish has an olive green and brown spotted back, a white belly and a long child board.
The fish species lives at depths of 20 to 600 meters close to the bottom.
The cod mainly feeds on lobsters, crabs, shrimps, fish and mussels.
Young cod is called generous. Dried cod is called stockfish. Skrei is the name he gets in the period between December and April when he migrates from the Barentz Sea to northwestern Norway to spawn. The name Skrei is derived from the Norwegian word Skreid, which means to roam.
